James Lamb is of counsel to the firm and his practice concentrates on state and federal election law, lobbying, and government ethics.

During the 2008 cycle, Jim served as general counsel for the Democratic Governors Association, Governor Bill Richardson’s presidential campaign, and several 527 political organizations that spent more than $20 million on issue ads.

Jim’s clients include state and federal candidates and officials, 527s, 501(c)(4) social welfare groups, 501(c)(3) organizations, corporations, individual donors, and political consultants.

In 2007, Jim was named by Washingtonian Magazine as one of Washington’s “Top Lawyers.”

In 2005, he successfully obtained the domain name rights for Senator Hillary Clinton, www.hillaryclinton.com, in a complaint filed with the National Arbitration Forum. www.adrforum.com/newsroom.aspx?&itemID=1110&news=3

Jim’s government and political career began in 1987 when he worked in the Detroit office for U.S. Senator Donald W. Riegle, Jr. as a community and economic development specialist. During the 1990 election cycle, Jim was the Executive Assistant to Michigan Democratic Party chairman F. Thomas Lewand. From 1991 through 1995, he worked for Congressman John D. Dingell serving on the congressional staff and as campaign manager in 1992 and 1994. While working for Congressman Dingell, Jim attended Wayne State University Law School in Detroit.

In the fall of 1995, Jim joined the law firm of Schafer & Weiner, P.C. as an associate where he specialized in civil litigation and corporate law. In 1996, Jim also worked as campaign manager for a successful statewide race to elect Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Marilyn Kelly to the State Supreme Court.

Jim moved to Washington, D.C.in 1997 where he served as counsel for Sen. John Glenn on the Governmental Affairs Committee, Special Investigation of Illegal or Improper Activity in Connection with the 1996 Federal Election Campaign. Jim’s primary area of responsibility on the Senate investigation included the fundraising activities of the Vice President.

In 1998, Jim joined the law firm of Ryan, Phillips, Utrecht & MacKinnon as an associate where he later became a partner. His practice area included state and federal election law, lobbying, and government ethics. In 2006, Jim moved to Harmon, Curran, Spielberg & Eisenberg where he continued his work in this field. In 2008, he joined Sandler, Reiff & Young.

Jim graduated from the University of Michigan, with Distinction, in 1987 and Wayne State University Law School, cum laude, in 1995.
